Personal

About Me:
I'm a fine artist, creating conceptual, symbolic paintings in the traditional drawing-based manner. A BRIEF CHRONOLOGY: 1964 to 1973: Early school art period. Did a pencil drawing of a horse when I was ten. Had a reputation as an artist thereafter. 1974 to 1993: Psychedelic-surrealist period. Some good art was produced, but it was an unhealthy way to live. 1994 to 1999: Photorealist phase. Returned to college at age 40 to get degrees in art. I got smarter and improved myself. 2000 to present: Traditional realist period. I trained in traditional drawing and painting techniques since this century began. Thank God the 20th century is over! GOALS: I am determined to make my mark. How deep that mark will be is not yet known, but I will continue striving to produce that one great masterpiece that will define me. Although I have already produced hundreds of artworks over the last 40 years, I don't think I've made it yet! Like most everybody else, I've wasted years working at stupid jobs to survive- but that doesn't define me. I'm glad I returned to school. Decades after graduating high school, and 7 years after my BFA, I will finally get my MFA in 2009. Besides painting, my number two goal is to help college art students to paint better. I take pride in being able to transmit what I know. As a person, I'm often charming and comedic but can be antisocial and melancholy at times. Working in stores formerly has turned me off to most of pop culture. I have never been a normal person- even though I know how to behave like one. I've met some real human beings in my time, and knowing them has made living bearable. I'm sure there are more, but we are in the minority. My opinion matters little. Ignore my words but not my painting. Only my art matters. Against all the interference that life throws at me, I shall carry on- because only art reveals my love for the world, my thanks for being alive, and my faith that something greater exists. INTERESTS: I'm interested in everything under the sun: in life and death, hope and despair, truth and the pursuit of happiness- of history, her story, your story, and our story. I'm interested in knowing that humanity shall go on trying to capture all the music, poetry, vision and light that our eyes and ears and lips can know. I'm interested in that which survives beyond the death of our cells- something we share more permanent than the pyramids- qualities that are invisible like the colors of the rainbow hiding in sunlight!
Hobbies:
Reading, Photography, Watching Films, collecting antiques, going to museums, and gardening. (Art is not a hobby!)
Favorite Movies:
I have at least a hundred favorites: movie classics, historical drama, mystery, science fiction and intelligent comedy preferred.
Favorite TV Shows:
I avoid reality shows, sports and dumb sitcoms, but I'm ashamed of watching too much TV and must reduce my daily dose of it. If I had to pick the most perfect TV series of all time it would be Star Trek The Next Generation.
Favorite Music:
Eclectic but mostly older stuff: Doo-wop, Charles Mingus, Johannes Brahms, Frank Zappa, Aaron Copeland, Howlin Wolf, Igor Stravinsky, etc.

this is a gifted artist who has, without question, mastered his craft, but better still, he creates works that are remarkably thought-provoking, imaginative, witty, and humorous. his still life paintings group disparate objects that convey an intuitive correlation or connection, but i find it impossible to articulate those relationships. they are sublime. thank you for your work, bob. it is superb.
