Personal

About Me:
Jon Shult explores the landscape and figure using a style often influenced by Impressionism. Mr. Shult has taught for the San Jose Unified School District, Foothill College and is a former California Arts Council Artist in Residence. This award winning artist has exhibited frequently in the Bay Area, including the Triton Museum, Works Gallery, San Jose Art League, and the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art. He exhibits in local venues regularly, and operates a gallery in Oroville showing his work. His degrees include a BA in Art from UC Santa Cruz and a MA in Art from San Jose State University. He works in a variety of media including drawing, printmaking, and painting. He usually completes landscapes on site, in oil, occasionally doing some revision in the studio. Some landscapes are painted in a looser style some tighter, and elements of geometry and abstraction enter some pieces. His subject matter varies, from urban scenes to seascapes, and rural subject matter. Jon is also involved with figure painting (clothed and nude), portraits, and printmaking. The term “broken color” often refers to the mixing of color. The effect of mixing two or more colors is duller and less brilliant than that of a single pigment. Although Jon often mixes colors, he refers to the term broken color in the way he use glazes and individual paint strokes in his work. He often uses Broken Color as a title for his art shows. Work can also be viewed by appointment only at: Broken Color Art Gallery 1360 Montgomery Street Oroville, CA 95965 (530)534-5474 Prints of the paintings are also available. Commissions welcomed.

Thank you for the comment. I wasn't sure if being so varied was a good thing or a bad thing.

Thank you for your comments, especially the wheelchair. That was a difficult yet important photo to me .And yes! I love to experiment, but has been for graphic art layouts. More fun experimenting just for fun!

I'm not sure if I'm a skilled printmaker, but I guess I'm a little close to being good at portraits. In any case, you for the kind words.

No problem, I love Chinese Contemporary Art and I think it really is important for people interested in art to learn more about the pieces being created in China. Thanks a lot for your interest in those pieces, its great to know that people in artbistro appreciate Chinese art.

Thank you Jon for the friend invite. You have a very strong portfolio on here , I can see the strong drawing base you build your paintings on, very distinctive indeed, it works so well with your brokencolor technique. Now am looking forward to see how the pastels work will turn out. :)
