i decided on a career in art when i just couldn't do anything else, really....i tried. I was starving, so I dedcided to be a starving artist. I tried acting but wound up learning to paint operas, tried grafic design at Ai houston but quit at my one hundreth bad watch.     About My Work: I am primarily a painter, probably close to what some might label a "Post-Modern Figurative Artist" which is to say, I paint a lot of nudes! I love the traditions of painting, the history of it all (having taught art and art history for the last ten years), and the power of art to affect the imaginations of who we are. I watch entirely too much TV but that is the medium and I have no wish to separate myself from the world I live in. My paintings come from that milieu channeled through my precarious synapses and subconscious to produce what you see here. I feel really lucky to be painting today. Gerald Thorp
