Personal
- About Me:
- Hi all, I am Bill Ades (pronounced Aa(short a) Dis). Currently I live in Brooklyn. I spent most of my life in New York, residing in Manhattan for a number of years and have also lived in LA and Israel for a few months. My passion for art began at a very young age with a healthy exposure to all the great artists throughout history through frequent visits to the museums and galleries. Never without a sketchbook, I would draw whatever I came across. At age thirteen, inspired by landscapes and nature, especially from the post impressionist period, I began to work with oils and produced work consisting of vibrant colors and huge brush strokes. As my love for the medium grew, I found that painting in larger scales allowed me to truly utilize my energy toward my work. While studying at New York University with a focus in studio art, I began to take my work to a more non-subjective level as my focus changed from the subject matter to the actual medium itself. My work slowly began to move away from the world of the landscape to a focus on the medium itself. Since then, I have completed a number of both large scale works in oils and acrylics, as well as tempera and mixed media on canvas as well as other surfaces that I could find. Painting in my perspective is not only an emotional or physical experience, but also one of intellect and spirituality. The goal of my work is, through the use of the medium and expression to give something to the public, that is a world where the medium is speaking to the individual and inspires that person to be a part of a connected world. To me it is the medium that truly defines the work. Paint, or any other medium for that matter is the intermediary between the artist and the viewer. Whether there is a subject matter in the work or it is in the abstract realm, each stroke, each dab of color, it is not only telling the viewer about the artist but also about the him or herself. It is an ongoing connection. If one tiny stroke would turn out different, or the shade of one of the colors, the painting conveys an entirely new message. Now some music for your listening pleasure! Enjoy!
